Today, the Kilometre Bomber was let loose. It was the first Kilometre Bomb to kick off the start of Kidney March. Today's march was organized in memory of those we have lost. The march started specifically to end walking up the last hill around the Glenmore Reservoir. The hill was named by the organizer's team, Memorial Hill. He knew that I was coming because just a few days ago I wanted to do a little something to make this first Bomb extra special. I told him that I had heard of his walk through the Kidney March Manager and I would like to take part as crew and cheer his team on and walk along with them. Partial Truth! I did not mention anything about the Kilometre Bomber. I told him I wanted to surprise his group by doing something a little special like a flag or banner for his initiative. We worked together to come up with a flag as a take away memory for those who participated in the walk. I hand assembled the flags the night before and added Kidney March tattoos as a little surprise extra to each flag. I made 32 flags and left the walk with no flags. We had just enough. Everything was set and ready for the Kilometre Bomb. To my surprise, I was very calm and feeling excited to start this August-September Adventure. Deep inside I was a little nervous.

When I arrived, I held back in the bushes until the walk was about to start. I came out from the side bushes in full Kilometre Bomber attire and said, Kidney Marchers you are being Kilometre Bombed. I was holding the flags in my hands and waving them tall. I had a noise maker which helped add to the entertainment. Bombings and applause sounds. I continued, "come get your flags and tattoos, lets have a good walk!" This was the moment that I have been planning for. For a split second I thought what if these people hate this.... but as always the Kidney March community is welcoming, they were smiling and taking pictures.

The walk started, generally am a natural fast passed walker, I found myself ahead of the pack which I used at my advantage to bomb and cheer on the groups as they came along. I would hide at corners to create surprise! I then would have to walk past (cheering of course) and continued to do it again. I think I did it over a total of 4 times around the reservoir. It was a ton of fun! When I finished, I found myself walking back the way we came to ensure that I cheered on everyone.

There were times where I would be alone on the path and when passers by would see me, to break that awkward moment I would say good morning. Some people would cheer me on, some would ask questions about what was going on. It was amazing, it was exactly what I was hoping to achieve. It felt SO GOOD to make people smile and to do something out of the ordinary in this year 2020. That was the best part of today's walk. The Kilometre Bomber was a hit. I hope Jim was happy with his Kilometre Bomb Surprise.

I am already booked for another Kilometre Bomb. I hope the next ones are just as welcoming and fun.

Here are a few pictures. Its hard to get pics with my phone I cheering people on and they are the ones taking pictures.
