2018 BEACON OF HOPE

If you have ever marched Kidney March there is no describing how you feel when you finally see those Beacons of Hope! You might be asking what are the Beacons of Hope? I am talking about the Ski Jumps at Calgary Olympic Park. After walking 90 Kilometers or so anything helps to get through the last 10KM.

I remember during my very first Kidney March when I saw those Ski Jumps marching into to Calgary…and well… I cried out YES! I think there might have been some jumping, dancing and a few premature tears involved as well. It was just the boost I needed to get though the last leg of Kidney March. Although I see these ski jumps regularly I was still inspired to take a picture.

Now its 2019, Kidney March closing ceremonies have finished. Everyone is gathering their belongings and still on a high from a successful weekend. We leave thinking, it will be just as good if not better when we walk though that finish line again in 2020.

Fast forward to 2020! We don’t have a finish line at Calgary Olympic Park, we must distance to keep ourselves and others healthy. What a curve ball! For the organizers new plans, for the marchers… new plans… ALL expectations are reset!

On August 10th our new Kidney March journey began. I felt that I couldn’t leave behind in the dust those inspirational markers that bring many of us Kidney Marchers that last needed boost to get’her done! That was why I named them the Beacons of Hope! Where we left in 2019, is where the Kilometre Bomber marked the beginning of the 2020 Kidney March with her own crew. With her kids and Husband on side, together they started walking from Calgary Olympic Park.

When I first proposed my idea to start our Kidney March at C.O.P. with my crew they thought geez its going take FOREVER! This walk is going to be EPICLY long.

The entire 3.71 KM journey was completed in just over an hour. Just saying it really wasn’t that bad right! (Blink, Blink)

This was our tribute to a very special place for the Kidney March community and to all of Calgary.

Where we left off, is where we begin.

I look forward to bombing many more special places around Calgary.
